Demand for electrical courses could increase as a result of installations of solar panels, which one sector representative has suggested work best when combined with other green technologies.

Mike Southall, national sales manager at Buderus, explained how just putting a solar system on an existing appliance is not as effective as combining it with a solar thermal offering.

The installation of such new technologies may require engineers to attend electrical courses and Mr Southall stressed the importance of each individual job being surveyed accurately.

He added: "Our core products are boilers, but we have a solar thermal offering which can work in conjunction with the boilers, which can give you far greater efficiency."

Recently, the Energy Saving Trust revealed the Scottish boiler scrappage scheme closed after all the vouchers were handed out to consumers.

Each token offered a Scottish household £400 off the cost of a new system and could potentially save families up to £190 each year.
