Tradespersons who want to take a plumbing training course to increase their industry skills could benefit from the government's Train to Gain programme.

According to the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, the number of people who have earned a qualification through the scheme has passed the one million mark.

Skills minister Kevin Brennan commented on the landmark by saying that the programme has been extremely beneficial for both workers and employers.

He explained: "With new skills [employees] can further their own careers and make a significant impact on the business they work for."

Geoff Russell, chief executive of the Learning and Skills Council, added that training can increase performance, help the economy and improve motivation and commitment.

Such comments could encourage workers to gain further skills by taking additional plumber training courses.

The Train to Gain scheme is part of the government's Solutions for Business, aimed at helping eligible English businesses grow and succeed.
