Those planning on embarking on a plumbing training course in the near future might be interested to read about the improvement works currently being undertaken on the Fylde coast by United Utilities.

The FTSE 100 company has now repaired and fully refurbished the underground storm pumps at Bloomfield Road, Blackpool and two new pumps have been purchased.

It is also constructing four large primary settlement tanks at the Fleetwood WWTW treatment plant, which are 38 metres in diameter and will not be visible to the general public as they are buried underground.

The firm has also been working on an emergency overflow at the Manchester Square Pumping station, which discharges waste out to sea during storm conditions.

United Utilities said: "We are continuing to work closely with both Blackpool and Wyre councils to plan our programme of work on the Fylde Coast and to minimise the impact of the construction works on traffic and the tourist season."
