The introduction of the feed-in tariff (FIT) has been well thought out and implemented, it has been claimed, with renewable energy courses potentially seeing more interest as a result.

Source Renewable director Laurie Eve suggested the government incentive programme has boosted the green power generation industry and has led to a great deal more installations of such technology.

He suggested it would be comforting for the state to declare its intentions with regards to the longevity of the FIT scheme, with students on renewable energy courses likely to be aware of the impact this issue will have on the sector.

Mr Eve said: "Before the FITs, a solar PV installation would probably take 25 to 30 years to pay for itself, whereas now a typical domestic installation would take eight to ten years."

Last week, Ofgem revealed that more than 16,000 installations taking place in the UK during 2010 took advantage of the FIT programme.
