Different CSCS cards for different roles.

Why do you need it?

You will need a CSCS card once you have completed one of our courses. For example, if you're taking our NVQ Level 2 Bricklaying Course, once you've finished and you're ready to take the skills and lessons learnt at Able Skills onto the site. You will require a CSCS card to enter a construction site regardless of your NVQ and any other qualifications you may have.

We will help you in many ways on your path towards achieving a qualification during an NVQ Level 2 Course including helping you gather evidence for a portfolio, providing the assessor to judge your work competence. However, we do not provide this card and its vital you have it in your possession when working on any construction site.

You will need a different card depending on what trade you work in and what experience and qualifications you have, here are the construction courses we offer at Able Skills:

What is a CSCS Card?

There is an expectation when working on site, that you understand the codes and conventions of the workplace. Regulations and health and safety need to be followed.  As evidence of your understanding, you should have qualifications and hold a CSCS card.

It’s completely critical that you show proof that you have undergone awareness training, firstly you having this understanding can be the deciding factor in the health and safety of others and yourself. It's more common than not that you will be turned away from most construction sites within the UK regardless of your experience and knowledge if you don’t possess this card!

This applies to everyone from entry-level workers with no formal qualifications right through to skilled workers with years of experience in the industry. It is a scheme run by the Construction Industry Training Board that is designed to demonstrate that participants have achieved a minimum level of competence to work in the construction sector at different levels.

You don’t need to have an NVQ to acquire a basic version of the CSCS card (CSCS Site Labourers Card.) however you must have demonstrated your competence in the workplace, In terms of the health and safety regulations needed to be working on site.

There are many different cards, for instance: you will need an NVQ Level 2 Diploma for the CSCS Blue Skilled Worker Card. If you do not have these qualifications, but you are experienced in your job and have registered for a qualification applicable to your occupation, you may apply for an Experienced Worker Card. There are many types of cards depending on your role and level of qualification so please see their website for more details.
