Why become a Gas Engineer?

Why become a Gas Engineer?

Well, there are many different reasons that a person may choose the career of a Gas Engineer. Here at Able Skills, we play host to the learning of a wide range of trades, one of our most popular is the trade Gas. This is because Gas is always in demand, making it an attractive trade to take up. If you have little experience - not to worry, we have specially designed course packages for new entrants...

One of the big reasons that becoming a Gas Engineer is so enticing to our students is the idea of self-employment. If you work best on your own, becoming a gas engineer is ideal, as even the most difficult of domestic customers isn’t going to impact on your working life for more than a few hours! Plus not answering to anyone or dealing with colleagues less dedicated to the job as you may be extremely exciting. Most of all, setting your own hours.

Becoming a Gas Safe Registered Engineer has never been easier with the help of Able Skills and our New Entrant Gas Training Package 2. This includes everything you need to begin working, firstly a 7-week programme of learning which will give you all of the knowledge and practical ability followed by portfolio completion and an ACS assesment. After which there is only one more step before you can carry out Gas work, which is registering for the Gas Safe Register!

How do I become Gas Safe Registered?

It is much easier than you think and can be done online for an application fee of £365 which will save you a pretty penny if caught carrying out illegal gas work! To apply you will need to have completed a recognised competency test either an NVQ or an ACS!

An ACS  assessment will need to be completed before you are eligible for Gas Safe registration and this is a requirement for all operatives involved in the installation, maintenance and servicing of domestic gas appliances and pipe-work installations. Also, every Gas Safe registered business renews their registration on an annual basis and updates their qualifications every 5 years, meaning you will need to refresh your memory on gas safety every 5-years!
