Why you should consider a career as a Gas Engineer!

There are many reasons to be thinking about a new career. Recent times have shown how uncertain some types of employment can be, there has never been a better time to think about a change in direction. Gaining a trade skill is a great opportunity to not only learn new skills but having valuable trade skills to fall back on is unmeasurable. There is always demand in the trade industry, meaning if you are qualified and competent you will not struggle to find work. Here at Able Skills, we have been teaching Gas courses for many years, no experience? Don't worry, we have specifically designed courses for new entrants. Let's take a look at our Gas training courses and how you can get started working towards a successful new career...

Gas courses are popular at our centre. One of the main reasons for this is the idea of becoming self-employed through Gas training. Which is a very real route to take in the trade and a path that many leaving our training centre go on achieve...Becoming self-employed is obviously ideal, if you enjoy working on your own then you will do well in this role. Not answering to anyone else and working on your own terms and hours is a reality for many professional engineers.

Opportunities for Gas engineers are not going anywhere! This is important in today's world, with furlough schemes and people struggling to find work there are a few industries that are least affected by events like this - At the end of the day people still need their boilers repaired, companies still need heating. People in the trade have also seen very consistent earnings over the years, the amount that engineers make obviously is reflected by the hours they are putting in, however, you could expect to earn around £30,000 a year when starting out and with more experience under your belt you should see around £50,000. Again, the sky's the limit when it comes to being self-employed and having your own business, the more work you put in the more you will receive.

How would I start?

As a new entrant, we would recommend one of our new entrant packages such as our New Entrant Gas Training Package 2 as these are structured for those with little experience in the trade and aim to make the process of beginner to industry-ready as straightforward as possible. This package of gas training includes an initial 7-weeks of training focused both on the hands-on practical skills and the theory behind it. From there you will look to complete a portfolio of work, working alongside a registered engineer. Finally, in preparation for Gas Safe Registration, you will take on an ACS examination here at the centre. Have a read through our website or give us a call on 01322 280 202 to gain more details on this training opportunity.
