Interest in carpentry courses could be set to rise after a DIY expert lauded the versatility of wood as an interior design material.

Carolyn Park, who is head of design for her own interior design firm, explained that the main benefit is its versatility, but it is also useful because it takes away the limitations on craftsmen in terms of what a finished product can look like.

Workers who have completed carpentry courses may agree with Ms Park, who suggested that wood allows an item of any size to be constructed.

"It enables you to do anything, in any shape or form and it's a natural product so ecology wise we would much rather use wood than plastic," she added.

Ms Park has had her own design business for 15 years after starting off by renovating the home she shared with her husband - a 17th century Georgian farm house.
