Tradespersons who have taken electrician and plumbing training courses could help those who want to sell their house, Rated People has revealed.

According to the worker recommendation service, people trying to boost the value of their property but have little DIY experience could benefit from employing a trained professional with approved electrical qualifications.

Ottokar Rosenberger, sales and marketing director at the company, added that householders employing tradespersons to carry out a home improvement project should also be aware of current buyer trends to maximise the eventual property price.

"Homeowners ought to consider which forms of renovation are most desirable in the current market, as this can go a long way when it comes to finding a buyer for a home," he said.

According to figures from Lloyds TSB Insurance, more than a million Brits carried out structural work on their property without professional help, with ten per cent doing so in an attempt to increase the value of their homes.
