Workers who have taken accredited gas courses could find themselves in higher demand after uSwitch warned Brits to have their boilers regularly serviced for their own safety.
Research by the company found that 42 per cent of households disregard advice to have their boilers checked once every year, while the proportion of UK homeowners who have never had their appliances serviced stands at ten per cent.
According to the consumer group, this puts a large amount of Brits at an increased risk of carbon monoxide poisoning and Will Marples, its energy expert, commented that if homeowners do not get "their boiler checked they are taking a chance with their health".
If the 42 per cent of UK households take heed of this warning to get an accredited engineer to check the performance and safety of their boilers, people who have taken gas courses could see a large rise in regular employment.
According to the Gas Safe Register, 12 per cent of appliances it inspects could be fatal. The body recently released a new television advert highlighting the dangers of employing illegal gas workers.
