Course details

This 8-week bricklaying course is designed to give you a solid foundation, including a City & Guilds qualification and a comprehensive understanding of what’s required to progress toward an NVQ. Once you have completed your 8 weeks of intensive, hands on bricklaying training, you will then be industry ready which is where you need to be in order to achieve the Bricklaying NVQ.

Throughout the entire 8 weeks, you will be trained and assessed to achieve a C&G qualification as well as receive training which reflects ‘reality’ and also provides you with a comprehensive understanding of what you will need to do to eventually achieve the NVQ level 2.

You will be trained and assessed across the following areas:

  • Health and Safety in construction
  • Constructing half brick corner
  • Constructing cavity walls in brick and block
  • Constructing 1 brick walling (English bond)
  • Half brick wall with basket weave feature
  • Attached and detached piers
  • Raking and cutting to a timber frame building
  • Cavity wall with window opening
  • Gable End construction
  • Two rough ring circular arch OR decorative panel feature work
  • Garden wall with attached piers

NVQs are Declarations of Competence, which means they must be completed in a real working environment— not a simulated setting like a training centre. Our role is to fully prepare you for this process, and we take pride in doing so effectively.

At the end of the course, you will receive the contact details for CST Training, who will guide you seamlessly through the NVQ requirements.

Once registered for your NVQ, you may choose to obtain a CSCS Experienced Worker or Trainee card (after independently arranging and passing a CSCS test), giving you improved access to employment. When you complete the NVQ, this card can be upgraded to a Blue Skilled Worker card.

CST Training provides:

  • Multiple payment options
  • An online portfolio platform
  • An assessor induction delivered via Google Meets

Once registered, candidates will begin collecting evidence in their workplace and uploading it to the online portal, including:

  • Videos demonstrating on-site work (correct PPE, material handling, and trade-specific tasks)
  • Relevant site documentation, such as Toolbox Talks, Method Statements, and Briefings
  • A scheduled recorded discussion via Google Meets to complete the knowledge-based questions
  • A final Professional Discussion with an assessor, also via Google Meets, to conclude the NVQ process

After submission, the portfolio will undergo internal quality assurance and then be claimed with the awarding body. The final certificate will be issued by email.
