Our 3 day 18th Edition course enables you to gain familiarity with the layout, content and application of BS 7671:2018+A4:2026. This City & Guilds qualification ensures you are fully up-to-date with the latest UK wiring regulations — including the newest Amendment 4 — covering safe design, installation, inspection and testing of electrical systems. The course is entirely theory based and is completed by way of an online multiple-choice open book exam.
The 18th Edition course is aimed at practising electricians, electrical contractors, supervisors, consultants, inspectors, and anyone who requires a thorough working knowledge of BS 7671. Updated for BS 7671:2018 Amendment 4, this qualification ensures individuals are fully conversant with the latest requirements for electrical installations. A basic understanding of electrical principles is recommended.

Scope, object and fundamental principles — structure and compliance requirements of BS 7671:2018+A4:2026
Definitions and terminology — practical interpretation of regulatory language
Assessment of general characteristics — design parameters, load calculations and modern systems including battery storage
Protection for safety — overcurrent protection, RCDs, isolation, earthing systems and domestic/commercial/industrial environments
Selection and erection of equipment — wiring systems, ICT systems and smart building technologies
Inspection and testing — initial verification, periodic inspection and testing requirements
Special installations or locations — bathrooms, medical locations, EV charging, prosumer and battery storage systems
Appendices and supporting guidance — tables, charts and technical references
Key updates in Amendment 4 (2026)
This course incorporates all confirmed changes from Amendment 4 — including new sections not covered in previous editions.
Stationary secondary batteries New chapter covering battery energy storage systems — safe installation and operation.
Functional earthing for ICT New requirements for earthing and equipotential bonding specific to ICT systems.
Power over Ethernet (PoE) New section addressing PoE systems for lighting, data and smart building services.
Medical locations – Section 710 Major update to requirements for medical electrical installations with new testing schedules.
Consolidation of Amendments 1, 2 & 3 Amendment 4 integrates all previous amendments into a single publication, making the regulations easier to use and reference. New and altered installations must comply after a six-month transition period from 15 April 2026.
This course is entirely classroom based. It introduces the wiring regulations and covers their application through expert instruction, real-world examples, and interactive exercises. Delegates are fully prepared for the City & Guilds 18th Edition exam — a 2-hour multiple-choice, open book online examination.

From this course you can move on to Inspection and Testing qualifications: C&G 2391-52 (Level 3 Award in Inspection and Testing) or maybe PAT Testing. If you do not hold any electrical qualifications and would like to work becoming a fully qualified Electrician to work in Commercial/Industrial premises, the C&G 2365 at level 2 would be a very good starting point for you.
All of our courses take place at our dedicated training centre in Dartford, Kent. The centre is easily accessible by road, being just 10 minutes from junction 1a on the M25. We are only a short walk from Dartford train station which is served by frequent trains taking 35 minutes from central London. For anyone travelling from further away, we have our own accommodation available at only £25 per night.
