The City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures) — 2365-02 is the electrotechnical industry's standard academic entry point for anyone wanting to become a qualified electrician. Awarded by City & Guilds, it tests both practical installation competence and underpinning technical knowledge in a realistic working environment.

You will learn to be an electrician from scratch. The C&G 2365 Level 2 Diploma is structured across five mandatory units that build progressively from safety fundamentals and electrical science through to practical, hands-on installation work. Assessment methods include City & Guilds Evolve online multiple-choice exams, short-answer written assessments, and a full practical installation assignment.

At Able Skills the Level 2 Diploma is delivered through a genuine blend of hands-on practical workshop sessions and structured classroom-based theory. Learning is reinforced week by week: practical skills are introduced in the workshop, then underpinned by theory in the classroom before being assessed through City & Guilds exams and assignments.

Able Skills' Dartford training centre has been designed specifically for this qualification. Our practical training bays are fitted with training boards set to exceed City & Guilds specification, ensuring you develop skills that go beyond the minimum standard. All tools, materials and up-to-date test equipment are provided — you will not need to bring your own. You will also receive the relevant course textbook and handouts to keep throughout and beyond the course.

The City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations (2365-02) gives you a thorough grounding in both the practical and theoretical sides of electrical installation work. Awarded by City & Guilds — the UK's leading vocational awarding organisation — this qualification is structured around five mandatory units:

  • Unit 201 – Health and Safety in Building Services Engineering
Learn to demonstrate a solid understanding of health and safety before progressing to practical installation work. This unit covers the key legislation, risk assessment and safe isolation practices — the essential groundwork for any site-based role in the electrotechnical industry.

  • Unit 202 – Principles of Electrical Science
This unit builds the technical foundation you'll draw on throughout your career. You'll study the core electrical principles that underpin modern installations — voltage, current, resistance, power and circuit theory — developing the analytical understanding needed to progress confidently to Level 3 and beyond.

  • Unit 203 – Electrical Installation Technology
Explore the full range of materials, components and systems used in electrical installations. The unit covers how different installation technologies are selected and applied across domestic, commercial and industrial settings.

  • Unit 204 – Installation of Wiring Systems and Enclosures
The practical heart of the City & Guilds 2365-02, this unit is assessed through a full hands-on installation assignment. You'll develop real working skills — installing wiring systems, building enclosures and using industry-standard tools and techniques.

  • Unit 210 – Communication within Building Services Engineering
Effective communication is as important on site as technical ability. This unit develops the professional skills needed to work productively alongside colleagues, clients and other trades — covering teamwork, workplace reporting and the standards of professional conduct expected across the building services industry.
