Jointing, bending and pressure testing copper tube
This course is entirely hands on and is ideal for anyone looking to learn basic domestic plumbing but additionally can act as a great taster course for anyone who is considering plumbing qualifications and a career as a Plumber. The course will cover all of the obvious issues that can arise within a domestic property in an attempt to teach you how to deal with certain things but more importantly, will provide guidance on when/if you really do need to call out a Plumber.
All of the tools and materials that this course requires will be supplied for you however it is essential that you have protective footwear (steel toe-cap boots) – suitable casual clothing is recommended as this course can get a little messy.
Our five-day introduction covers plumbing systems and fittings, soldering, jointing and bending copper tube, pressure testing, valves, taps, cisterns and domestic pipework. We deliver the training through practical, workshop-based sessions.
How long is the Introduction to Plumbing course?
We run the course for five days, Monday to Friday, from 08:30 to 16:00. We designed it as a short, intensive introduction rather than a full professional plumbing qualification.
Is the Introduction to Plumbing suitable for adult beginners?
Yes. We have no entry requirements, and we designed the course for adults who want basic domestic plumbing skills, greater DIY confidence or a practical taster before committing to a longer qualification.
Do I need plumbing experience before taking a beginner plumbing course?
No. You do not need previous plumbing experience for our Introduction to Plumbing course. Our tutors begin with core systems, tools and techniques and guide you through practical exercises in our training centre.
Where does Able Skills run its Introduction to Plumbing course?
We run our Introduction to Plumbing course at our dedicated training centre in Dartford, Kent, close to Dartford station and the M25. We also have accommodation for learners travelling from outside the area.
Is the Introduction to Plumbing course hands-on?
Yes. We teach the course entirely through hands-on domestic plumbing tasks to build your confidence. We supply the tools and materials; you just need suitable clothing and steel toe-cap footwear.
Will the Introduction to Plumbing course qualify me as a plumber?
No. We provide an Able Skills certificate assured by City & Guilds to confirm the introductory skills you have learned, but it is not a Level 2 plumbing qualification. If you want a trade qualification, you can progress with us to the City & Guilds Level 2 Plumbing Course.
What certificate do I receive after the plumbing training course?
After you successfully complete the course, we award you an Able Skills certificate assured by City & Guilds. It recognises the introductory skills we cover during the five-day programme.
Can a five-day plumbing course help me become a plumber in the UK?
Yes, it can be a useful first step and helps you decide whether plumbing is right for you, but our five-day course alone does not qualify you as a plumber. You would normally need further technical training and evidence of occupational competence for a professional route.
Can I progress from the Introduction to Plumbing course to Level 2?
Yes. We present the introduction as a taster and foundation for further study. If you decide to pursue plumbing professionally, you can progress with us to the City & Guilds Level 2 Plumbing Course.
