What is the 18th Edition?
In all trades there has to be regulations. The 18th Edition is simply the newest set of guidelines for electrical installation. Published in July 2018 they outline the industry standard for safe electrical isolation, maintenance and more. Anybody working with electrical installations must have some knowledge of these 'regs'. The regulations apply to the design, erection and verification of electrical installations, plus additions and alterations to existing installations.
The IET Wiring Regulations is a very detailed book. Nobody in the industry will know the regulations in full or memorise it from front to back. You are not expected to know every single guidelines, safety measure and regulation. Your goal when studying the 18th edition is to understand how to reference them and relate them to specific situations.
How does the course work?
Able Skills is an IET Centre of Excellence which means that we deliver highest quality electrical training courses. We focus of helping people become fully-qualified electricians. gaining familiarity with the layout, content and application of 18th Edition Regulations is key is that process. Our course is 3-days in total and is entirely classroom based. You will be taught by one of our instructors how to quickly locate the right information with the book itself and start to understand the application of particular regulations.
We will ensure that you are fully prepared for the City & Guilds 18th Edition test which is a 2-hour multiple-choice, on-line examination. The exam is 'open book', meaning that you will be able to look up wiring regulations and refer to the 18th edition book during the exam process. The difficulty is in finding the information quickly and knowing their purpose.
The course is £395.00 in total for the 3-day course and can be booked in advance with a deposit of £150. If after the first two days you are not confident about the exam and you are struggling in any way, we do offer an additional 1-day refresher course. Our 18th Edition Update Course is great for those who need a little extra help and will give you complete confidence taking on the final assessment.
