Budget 2018Last week was the annual Budget and this so happened to be the last one before Brexit finally happens. The Budget 2018 brought together by The Chancellor, Philip Hammond has given a lot of talking points and will change various sectors of the UK. In the construction industry it is looking to gain a boost with funding available that will help build more homes in the UK.

Funding now available is due to be the key to unlocking 650,000 new homes across the UK and will allow the government to get closer to easing the housing crisis. Altogether funding of around £500m will be put into building more houses.

This was taken from the Guardian’s round up of the Budget 2018:

“Philip Hammond said the housing infrastructure fund, which pays for physical infrastructure like roads and power supplies, to boost housebuilding is to increase to £5.5bn, as he announced nine strategic partnerships with housing associations to build another 13,000 homes.

He also said councils would receive £675m for ailing high streets including helping them redevelop empty shops as homes. The government will also consult on demolishing empty offices and turning the sites into homes and building homes on top of existing apartment blocks and offices as part of attempts to increase housebuilding to 300,000 units a year.”

The news on funding for more building projects is welcomed by the construction industry with more work going to be available within all corners of the UK. Those construction workers with the skills and qualifications will be spoilt for choice with all the work available to them.

However, the skills shortage will provide a stumbling block for the construction industry as skilled workers are not easy to find. But, it is a great opportunity to tackle unemployment as the job opportunities are huge and with perfect training courses available here at Able Skills, why not take the chance for a new career?
