What will I learn?

 

If you are looking to become a traditional electricians in the sense that you carry out electrical work in a domestic setting, then this is the course for you! Firstly starting with Introduction to Basic Domestic Electrics as this is the ideal starting point on the journey to becoming a domestic electrician and will lay the foundation of knowledge for you to progress forward. This electrical course will give you the practical ability and confidence in the following areas of domestic electrical installation:

  • The definition of electric shock
  • Ohms Law & Power Triangles
  • Identification of earthing systems
  • An introduction to legislation governing electrical installation in dwellings
  • Understanding circuit breaker and cable selection
  • Installation of earthing and bonding, Ring circuits, Radial Circuits and various lighting circuits.
  • Understanding basic inspection and testing:
  • Safe isolation
  • Adding additional outlets to a circuit
  • Completion of a minor works certificate

 

Next, you will take on our 3-day 18th Edition Course which is a requirement for everybody working with electrics. The aim of this 3-day electrical training course is to gain familiarity with the layout, content and application of the latest wiring regulations. To complete this course you will need to complete an online exam that will be taken here in our exam room - It is open book meaning that you will have the 18th Edition Book with you. This course is simple to complete if you pay complete attention during the 3-days, make sure that you ask questions if you have any issues our instructors know the regulations inside and out.

Following on from there it will be time for Level 2 Fundamental Inspection and Testing which is a 5-day course that focuses on testing, which is the procedures that electricians use to ensure that a circuit is working correctly and safe for use before being energised. This qualification not only helps you to fully understand testing, it also provides you with a qualification and certificate to show you are competent to undertake the work. The 5-days will cover:

  • Electrical Hazards & Safety
  • Safe Isolation Procedures
  • Correct use of Testing Instruments
  • The Correct Sequence of Tests
  • Protective Conductors
  • Ring Final Circuits
  • Insulation Resistance
  • SELV
  • Special Installations and Locations
  • IP Codes
  • Polarity
  • Earth Electrodes
  • Earth Fault Loop Impedance
  • Residual Current Devices (RCD)
  • Prospective Fault Current
  • Verification of voltage drop

 

Upon Completion:

 

Upon completion of this Domestic Electrical Part-P Package you will need to sign up to a competent persons scheme. Various competent persons scheme providers will have different entry requirements and ways of assessing your competence, so it is advised that you consider contacting your preferred provider ahead of booking a course to confirm their requirements. Some scheme providers will require evidence of practical experience before progressing your application. Some may also test your competence with an online knowledge assessment to ensure you have the required understanding to progress your application. We do recommend that complete new entrants work with an experienced electrician to build up experience.
