Looking to kickstart your career in tiling? Perhaps you’ve already got a few years under your belt and want to expand your skill set? Maybe you just want some basic skills for a DIY project at home? Whatever your end goal, Able Skills offers a range of expert-led tiling courses to suit all levels of experience.

What does a tiler do?

A tiler works with materials like ceramics, slate and marble to tile surfaces in a variety of different settings. Your day-to-day tasks could include:

  • Estimating and quoting clients based on required materials
  • Repairing and removing old tiles and surfaces
  • Preparing surfaces, levelling off with plaster, sand or cement
  • Cutting tiles to size and shape with hand-cutters or bench-mounted tools
  • Fixing tiles in place and applying adhesives to finish

Why are training and qualifications important to the trade?

Due to the tools and materials used in the tiling industry, health and safety needs to be at the forefront of your training, protecting both yourself and your potential clients. Learning under the guidance of experienced tradespeople is also vital when it comes to upholding high standards in your work going forward.

For tilers who want to work on-site, you’ll need to hold a CSCS Card. To register for this you’ll need to pass a health, safety and environment test (HS&E).
