bricklaying studentOver the years we have seen students go on to be very successful in their new careers and we are so proud to see them having great careers after training with us at Able Skills. Also, we find that students often come back to Able Skills to add to their skills with more training courses and to further their qualifications. This is exactly what former Bricklaying student, John has done recently.

Nearly six years ago, John was at Able Skills looking for a fresh start in life. After some hard years bouncing between office jobs and retail jobs that he hated, he took the plunge to get a worthy qualification. He came to us and decided it was a City & Guilds Bricklaying qualification that he was after. After six weeks of fantastic training, John was over the moon with what he had learnt, and he went out working straight away.

John worked with a building company doing extensions and more for a few years and then went out on his own doing more bricklaying work and patio work. He has always been eager to extend his learning and couldn’t fault how much he had learnt at Able Skills and working in the real world.

Six years later, John is back at Able Skills looking to gain his Bricklaying NVQ, so he can get a CSCS Card and get work on-site. He has taken the Experienced Worker route (EWPA) after showing five years’ worth of evidence completing bricklaying work.

He is now out on-site ready for our Bricklaying NVQ assessor to come out and assess him carrying out bricklaying work on-site. John was overwhelmed with how not only his career but his whole life has changed in the past six years and he puts most of that down to training at Able Skills and getting his life together.

John has plans to start his own business and start employing people and gain bricklaying contracts to carry out site work. He is very ambitious, and we would like to wish him all the success in the future. He was a fantastic bricklaying student during his time with us.

If you are at a crossroads in your career, then why take the plunge like John did and start training at Able Skills and pick up a City & Guilds Qualification that is recognised worldwide. For more information on all our courses, please contact us on 01322 280 202.
