Course details

This 6-week Bricklaying course will provide you with in depth training to cover several areas of essential bricklaying. You will be consistently assessed by our qualified Bricklaying instructors, building a portfolio of your work as you go. This course has been put together specifically to provide you with the skills that we think you will need to source work and continue working. A great deal of thought has gone in to developing this training programme as we feel at Able Skills that some of the qualifications that are available, simply do not meet the requirements of the industry or the requirements of the student.

This 6 weeks of hands-on bricklaying training will see you progress from a novice to a competent Bricklayer with the course designed to build your skills gradually until various aspects of brickwork becomes second nature and at this Centre where ‘reality’ is important, this is easily achieved.

The course is designed to build your skills gradually by providing training on smaller bricklaying work and building to the more complex areas as the course progresses.

The areas in which you will be trained on are:

  • Half brick wall with basket weave feature
  • Attached and detached piers
  • Raking and cutting to a timber frame building
  • Cavity wall with window opening
  • Gable end construction

In addition, you will be assessed on the following units to achieve additional City & Guilds 6219-08 certification:

  • Health and Safety in construction
  • Constructing half brick corner
  • Constructing cavity walls in brick and block
  • Constructing 1 brick walling (English bond)

This 6 weeks of hands on ‘reality’ training will cover all of the basic and essential skills that any Bricklayer will need in order to provide a competent service to any potential customer. This bricklaying training will see you progress from a novice to a competent Bricklayer with the course designed to build your skills gradually.

This course can be covered over a period to suit you and you can train for 6 consecutive weeks, divide your weeks up or even incorporate some weekend training if you have ongoing weekly commitments. At Able Skills we aim to make our qualifications as accessible as is possible and additionally we offer a payment plan which, following a deposit, is on an interest free pay as you train basis.

We are aware that every student that attends Able Skills learns at a different pace; if you find that you have completed all tasks in less than the 6 weeks allocated, we have additional learning programmes available, making this an even more comprehensive and rewarding training programme.

This is a hands-on, practical bricklaying course and you will be involved at every stage and will be participating throughout. It is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety, steel capped footwear is essential.
