Two students working on practical tasks during their gas training at Able Skills

If you’re considering a new career in the gas industry and researching how to become a gas engineer, you’ll already know that there are several vital sections of training and qualifications to complete before you can meet the required standard for Gas Safe Registration.

What training do you need to become a gas engineer?

You’ll need to do an accredited Managed Learning Programme (MLP), which will take 8 weeks.

Once you’ve done that, the next step is completing a portfolio of gas work while being supervised in a work placement.

Then, you’ll need to complete the Approved Certification Scheme (ACS) exams in core domestic gas safety (CCN1) and boilers/water heaters (CENWAT).

Gas Managed Learning Programme at Able Skills

If you’re looking to start a career in the domestic gas industry, our 8 Week Gas Managed Learning Programme provides the first steps in qualifying as a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Gas Portfolio Placement at Able Skills

At the end of 2022, at Able Skills, we introduced portfolio completion included within the gas engineer training packages. This means that any students completing their training with us, can now also do their portfolio with a Gas Safe Registered Engineer employed by Wrightway Gas Services.

ACS at Able Skills

Following the successful completion of your portfolio placement, you can return to Able Skills for your ACS assessment.

Silver Package

The Silver Package is similar to the Gold. It includes the MLP, portfolio placement and ACS. But, it doesn’t have the additional advanced 5-day course in boiler fault finding.
