Introduction to Domestic Electrical Installation:

This Introduction to Basic Domestic Electric course will cover the first 10-days and looks at the whole electrical installation process including testing and commissioning your circuit installation to ensure it is safe. This course is the first in this package because it will is where our instructors will give you the basic knowledge you need, they will introduce you to domestic electrical work in both theory and practical experience and overall give you a solid foundation on the fundamentals of the trade as a whole.

18th Edition:

Next, the 18th Edition also known as the wiring regulations are necessary for all electricians and this 5-day course will help you to gain familiarity with the layout, content and application of the 18th Edition Regulations. These 'regulations' are simply a set of guidelines for electrical installations and help you to be able to carry out electrical installations in accordance with industry-standard and in the safest manner. It’s not just electricians who need an understanding of 18th Edition. Installers involved with any aspect of electrical installations should also have a comprehensive knowledge – this includes other roles such as gas engineers and kitchen fitters etc.

Level 2 Inspection & Testing:

Inspection and Testing is the process of, first, inspection and then testing whether or not an electrical installation is working as it should be. This Inspection and Testing course and subsequently qualification not only helps you to fully understand testing, but it also provides you with a qualification and certificate to show you are competent to undertake the work. To complete the course candidates must successfully complete one online multiple-choice examination, comprising of 60 questions - the examination has a maximum duration of 120 minutes. During the online exams which will be taken in our dedicated exam room here at Able Skills you will have some materials with you including; BS 7671 (The 18th Edition book), IET On-site Guide and the IET Guidance Note 3.

After completion?

Various competent persons scheme providers will have different entry requirements and ways of assessing your competence, so it is advised that you consider contacting your preferred provider ahead of booking a course to confirm their requirements. Some scheme providers will require evidence of practical experience before progressing your application. Some may also test your competence with an online knowledge assessment to ensure you have the required understanding to progress your application. We do recommend that complete new entrants work with an experienced electrician to build up experience.
