Our student stories here at Able Skills gives us a great insight into what path our students are taking and what path they have come from before beginning their journey. Starting a new career can be a daunting experience especially starting in something completely new. Jamie has done exactly that and is now training towards his new career in the electrical industry.

Here is the next of our Student Stories for Jamie Gordon...

Jamie was formally working for a scaffolding company where he completed some scaffolding work and cavity wall insulation. However, after doing this same job for several years he felt it was time for a change. He decided that he wanted a more secure future with a career rather than just a job. Also, he liked the idea of challenging himself.

Here at Able Skills we offered exactly what Jamie wanted and he is now working through the Gold Card Electricians Course Package as he begins his journey to become an Electrician. Currently he is on the third week of his City & Guilds Level 2 Electrical Course, once completing this seven-week course he will move onto the 17th Edition then the City & Guilds Level 3 Course.

Jamie had the choice of continuing to work whilst training, however, he decided to quit his job and train full-time here with us in Dartford.

Each day he travels from Southend to train with us and he has been extremely pleased with his course so far. He has had high praise for his tutor, Trevor saying ‘he is good at understanding everyone’s situations’ and has enjoyed the variation of classroom and workshop based training. Also, Jamie was very happy with his booking experience with Angela, who is described as ‘very helpful’ and he also said she guided him in the right direction as he was unsure which route would be best for him.

His future plans are to become fully qualified as an Electrician and start working as an employee for an electrical company. In the long-term Jamie has plans to run his own private company.

Starting a career isn’t a walk in the park and Jamie knows how much hard work is required to complete the course. He has given this advice for anyone looking to complete a course and start a new career:

“Be sure to decide if it is definitely for you as you will have to go into it 100% certain. Also, you will need to be willing to put the hard work in, but the end result will be worth it”

We would like to wish Jamie the best of luck for the remainder of his training with us and all the best for his new career!
