Everybody in the country has been affected by the pandemic in one way or another. Those in hospitality, retail and entertainment will know first-hand how uncertain employment can be these days. These sectors often employ a lot of younger people, in fact, 66% of job losses have affected those under 25. Overall almost 700,000 jobs have vanished as businesses can't operate as usual.

On the other hand tradespeople like Electricians, Plumbers and Gas Engineers have continued to work as essential workers. Might this be the perfect time to weight your options and consider a new life for yourself. Here at our training centre we can help you gain valuable trade skills, confidence and employability.

Are you currently unemployed?

You are not alone, unemployment rate is at it's highest in over five years! According to statistics 1.7 million people in the UK are currently without stable work. The government have made a good effort to retain jobs by implementing the furlough scheme which at the start made a huge difference but now seems like it's going on forever. The furlough scheme has protected more than 11m jobs since the pandemic began, and 4.7m workers were on furlough in January. The scheme will now continue until the end of September this year.

Why is now the time to re-train?

Firstly, having a trade skill means that you have something to fall back on for the rest of your life. Regardless of what's going on in the world people need the services of skilled trades as evident during the pandemic. Not to mention that these roles are in demand. There is a lack of skilled workers in the electrical sector as well as both plumbing and gas. Those that do have the skills and qualifications are seeing increased wages and more work than ever before.

As you can see in the graphs above, In the three months to January 2021 you can see a smaller increase in the unemployment rate than recent increases, while the employment rate continued to fall. Get yourself out of this statistic, arm yourself with a trade skills and create employment for yourself. 2021 is the year to take action and take control back over your life and income!

We are happy to assist you in any way that we can whether you have some questions about a specific course or you are looking to gain some general advice.

How do courses work?

When you start a course with us, you will experience a mix of both hands-on practical training and theory sessions. Each trade will have a different route to take and different qualifications you'll need to achieve before you can go out and find work. For example if you are interested in becoming a plumber you will first look to take on our City & Guilds Level 2 Plumbing course which is a 6-week program designed to get you up to speed on a variety of topics.

From there you will look to go on and achieve a Plumbing NVQ or National Vocational Qualification. This is an on-site assessment to test your ability on the job. We have assessors in place who can visit you at your place of work to establish your competence, give guidance on portfolio completion (A collection of evidence in the form of photos and videos) and help you on your way to achieving this qualification. Having an NVQ under your belt then allows you to go on and find work on sites across the country.
