We have been teaching electrician courses for a long time, one course that we offer suited for those of you who want to achieve a basic understanding of domestic electrics is our Introduction to Basic Domestic Electrics - This course is perfect for those who are considering becoming a professional electrician but would like an introductory experience with the opportunity to continue training afterwards to peruse a career! Today we will be talking about what's included in the course and the options open to you upon completion.

Electrical students gaining practical skills in our workstations. - Able Skills

This course is 10-days in total and is a comprehensive look at life as a domestic installer. You will experience a mix of both classroom-based theory learning combined with hands-on practical learning in our workstations.  Our instructors will guide you the whole way and will provide teaching in many forms such as; demonstrations, classroom lectures and even one-on-one. They have years of experience in the trade and are experts at what they do. Do not be afraid of a lack of knowledge after all that is what you are here for, to develop and they have taught students at every still level from complete novice to those currently working in the industry looking to pickup extra skills. Let's take a look at what exactly the course will cover...

  • The definition of electric shock
  • Ohms Law & Power Triangles
  • Identification of earthing systems
  • An introduction to legislation surrounding electrical installation in dwellings
  • Understanding breaker and cable selection
  • Installation of earthing and bonding, Ring circuits, Radial circuits, Cooker circuits, various lighting circuits.
  • Completion of installation certificate
  • Understanding basic inspection and testing:
    • Continuity of protective conductors
    • Continuity of protective conductors radial circuits
    • Continuity of protective conductors ring final circuits
    • Insulation resistance
    • Polarity
  • Safe isolation
  • Adding additional outlets to a circuit
  • Completion of a minor works certificate

We will also build on your knowledge further and work towards strengthening your understanding of an electrical installation and any implications the installation may have with regards to the Building Regulations. Meaning that we will also cover some more advanced aspects of being a domestic electrician as we get further into the 10-day period. Looking at the practical application of electrical installations in different areas of a domestic setting such as a bathroom, this will include covering the following subjects...

  • Applicable Building Regulations
  • Electrical safety, legislation, regulations, standards & terminology.
  • Installation of a garden security light incorporating SWA
  • Inspecting, testing and commissioning a domestic single phase circuit.
  • Special locations and installations
  • Pre-work survey inspection
  • Basic understanding of 3 phase

If upon completion of this Introduction to Basic Domestic Electrics you will like to expand your knowledge of electrics the there are plenty of options in-front of you. However if the career you are aiming for is a traditional electrician working within a domestic setting the our Domestic Electrical Part-P Package is the absolute best starting point for a successful career in the trade! This course is an expanded version of this 10-day course and will give you much more opportunity with regards to extending the scope of electrical work that you can undertake. The course will expand your practical skills and knowledge as well as providing you with the essentials needed to begin working out in the industry, these include; 18th Edition,  Level 2 Fundamental Inspection and Testing and scheme registration.
