The contractors have been set for North West Leicestershire District Council’s Decent Homes scheme, which will see the interiors of nearly 4,500 council homes completely renovated.

The works on the homes will include the refitting of kitchen and bathroom plumbing, the installation of new boilers and central heating systems, new doors and windows and comprehensive electrical rewiring.

The work has been awarded to the contractors, Lovell and Kier, which will provide skilled tradesmen to jointly carry out the extensive home repair and replacement works on the homes in the council’s portfolio.

Roger Bayliss, the council’s portfolio holder for housing and customer services, said that they were delighted to have appointed the contractors and were looking forward to improving the living conditions of thousands of people within the district.

He explained, “Improving the quality of tenants’ homes to meet the Decent Homes Standard by 2015 is a key priority for the Council, and I’m delighted we are working with Lovell in delivering these improvements.”

The regional director for Lovell, Noel Adams, added that they were very pleased to be one of the council’s chosen partners.

“North West Leicestershire District Council has a very positive and committed approach to improving the quality of people’s homes up to and beyond Decent Homes Standard,” he said. “Lovell has leading expertise in delivering major refurbishment programmes such as this and we look forward to working closely with residents and the Council throughout the five-year partnership.”
