Electrical courses could offer a helping hand to Galliford Try, which has recently entered into agreements for a new homebuilding scheme.

According to the construction firm - which was formed in 2000 after a merger between Galliford and Try - it is in the process of working with affordable housing provider the Affinity Sutton Group to purchase and develop two sites in the south-east of England.

This would then lead to some 296 new homes being built by the company.

The Wilmington Estate in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, will provide 114 homes for sale and 71 affordable properties for rent, while the Ramsden Estate in Kent will deliver 111 new houses.

And it could be that workers who have completed electrical courses find themselves in demand to assist with the fit-out process of the homes, making sure they are ready for future inhabitants.

Greg Fitzgerald, chief executive of Galliford Try, commented: "The agreement now entered into underlines Galliford Try's commitment to partnering with leading registered social landlords to deliver both affordable housing stock and private homes for sale."
