Electrical course-takers could find they are needed to help implement Tesco's ambitious expansion plans that were recently outlined in a statement.

According to the supermarket group, some £1.6 billion is set to be invested in the economy in 2010, with the aim of creating thousands of jobs for the long-term unemployed in Britain.

And this will include the delivery of new stores around the country, it suggested.

The chain stated: "We have the opportunity to unwind some of the work-in-progress we have built up and will be stepping up the rate of expansion in 2010-11."

It could be that local workers who have successfully completed electrical courses find themselves in increasing demand to help fit-out the new properties and ready them for use.

The company statement also announced that Tesco's pre-tax profits were up by 10 per cent at the end of 2009 to £3.2 billion.

It currently employs more than 440,000 people around the world and operates 3,700 stores in 13 countries outside the UK.
