People who are unemployed but have approved electrical qualifications could find that they stand out from the crowd when applying for jobs.

Government figures recently showed that there are currently over 210,000 Britons on Jobseeker's Allowance who are looking to kick-start their career in the construction industry.

However, its Jobcentre Plus website lists just 302 vacancies throughout the entire country.

Commenting on the figures, Bridget Boreham from the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) said: "The government has stated that official figures, which go beyond the Jobcentre Plus website, put vacancies closer to the 7,000 mark but that still shows how competitive the race for construction jobs has become."

She explained that, with so many people looking to get into the industry, professional qualifications have recently become even more of a "must have" for those hoping their CVs will get noticed.

This suggests that training courses could well bolster the job prospects of potential electricians.

Originally established in 1834 as The Builders Society, the CIOB currently boasts more than 42,000 members.
