Workers who have taken electrician training courses could find themselves in demand to help install new high-speed internet in the near future.

The government recently revealed that £1 billion funding is going to be set aside to provide 90 per cent of the nation with super-fast broadband, as many rural communities lack access to such technology.

Lord Mandelson commented that it is essential countryside households receive the benefits that high-speed internet can offer.

"By upgrading our networks we will put the UK at the fore of rapidly developing technologies which will bring jobs, boost business potential and grow our digital economy," he added.

Some of theses employment opportunities could well be made available to tradespersons with approved electrical qualifications, who might be needed to install the new technology across the country.

It was recently revealed by broadband.co.uk that the average broadband speed in UK homes has increased since the start of 2009, from 3.667 megabits per second (Mbps) to 4.478Mbps.
