JIB releases it's annual review of the electrical industry for 2020!

Here at Able Skills we are construction training experts. We have been teaching electrician courses for almost 20-years and help people achieve the qualifications they need to start a successful career. Recently we have changed our focus and aim to be a centre of excellence helping students become fully-qualified and achieving a JIB Gold Card! Today we will talk about JIB's annual review for 2020 and talk about the many different option we offer for electrical training.

What is JIB?
JIB stands for Joint Industry Board, they are an organisation that sets the standard for the electrical industry, grading and are an important pillar in the sector. They help to maintain stability in the workplace and outline the standard that electricians should achieve. Put simply, their purpose is to improve the industry as best they can and generally they have a responsibility to set the standards for employment.
So, what did their annual review say about 2020?
Instead of focusing their annual review on the pandemic and what difficulties the industry have had during this time they instead focused on helping companies and individual electricians cope with the pandemic. For example, they have a coronavirus hub on their website which has been a huge help for limited electrical companies, self-employed electricians and others in the industry. The hub has plenty of useful information about Job retention schemes, support schemes, what coronavirus regulations mean for the working electrician and have links and recourses all in one place to help outline what individual electricians need to know, how and where to get the information they need. They even announced a temporary suspension of National Working Rule 16 to allow furloughed employees (including apprentices) to use their electrical skills to good effect, including performing socially valuable voluntary work.
They also talked about key achievements throughout the year and have outlined what is going to be important in the industry moving forward. For example, they talk about the success of their ECS check app which allows the verification of an electrician instantly. Stating 'via ECS Check, the electrotechnical industry and its customers have a means to conduct their own audits to verify all electrotechnical personnel on site throughout the supply chain.'
