Renewable energy course graduates could have up to 820 jobs to apply for as a result of plans by Korean firm Doosan Power Systems and Renfrew-based Steel Engineering.

The former organisation wants to construct a research centre and manufacturing plant in the country, which will create 200 and 500 green employment opportunities respectively, with another 1,000 supply-side roles also set to be created.

Workers who have taken renewable energy courses may find suitable jobs on one of the two sites, or they could benefit from Steel Engineering's decision to double its staff and create a new facility and mini-port.

First minister Alex Salmond commented: "It is another great stride forward for the renewables industry in Scotland - which is now the chosen destination for three energy engineering giants to design their next generation of turbines."

Last week, Friends of the Earth climate campaigner David Powell suggested the UK's Green Investment Bank needs billions of pounds of backing to ensure the country's energy infrastructure is efficiently put in place.
