Plans have been submitted by Lancashire County Cricket Club (LCCC) for a new redevelopment project of Old Trafford cricket ground and its surrounding area, which could create job opportunities for workers with approved electrical qualifications.

The proposals were submitted to Trafford Council, which outlines the cricket club's intention to add hotel, media and conference facilities, as well as increasing the ground's capacity to at least 15,000 and renovating its pavilion.

In addition, LCCC's partnership with Tesco, architects BDP and Ask Developments could see a new 100,000-square-feet supermarket being built.

Chief executive of LCCC said Jim Cumbes said: "It's a time right now of fierce competition for the rights to stage International Test Matches, which has seen the ground lose the Ashes this year."

The need for superior work could be essential, given the high profile of the events LCCC is trying to attract and may lead to opportunities for those who have taken electrical courses.

Established in 1864, the cricket club is one of the oldest in the country.
