Plumbing training courses could become something more women want to consider after the Arizona Republic reported on Kathryn 'Kitty' Maloney-Langmade, who recently became president of her father's plumbing business.

According to the American publication, she took over the family company - W.J. Maloney Plumbing - in May this year, which boasts a series of high-profile clients and multi-million dollar contracts.

Miss Maloney-Langmade commented that much of the company's success is down to a reputation carved out by consistent good service.

"We're ethical, professional and treat people with respect. Everyone works hard around here," she said, before adding: "Those are things that make you successful, having outstanding employees you can trust."

According to figures from Northern Ireland's Construction Industry Training Board, only one per cent of females in Britain who are employed in the sector actually work in craft and trade.

Some 88 per cent of women working in the industry are found in secretarial roles, the statistics demonstrated.
