Morgan Ashurst this week outlined its commitment to employing local construction workers on its projects - which could benefit Britons who have taken electrician or plumber training courses.

The firm's parent group Morgan Sindall released its "robust" preliminary results for the year leading up to December 31st 2009, which included a pre-tax and amortisation profit of £51.5 million.

And Morgan Ashurst's managing director Graham Shennan commented that the company had performed well over the last 12 months despite the economic downturn.

He added that a big part of its good results has been played by employing residents who live nearby on its projects.

"Key to our strategy has been a commitment to create local jobs for local people in the communities where we work," he explained.

This could mean that the services of top-quality tradespersons who have taken electrician or plumbing skills will always be needed by the company to help with its developments.

Morgan Ashurst employs more than 1,800 workers across Britain.
