The NICEIC recently announced the launch of its brand-new pocket-guide app, offering tradespeople a quick and easy way to access a range of technical reference guides and other helpful industry tools.

Operating the largest voluntary register of electrical businesses in the UK, the NICEIC assesses over 36,000 companies to ensure the installation work they carry out meets the latest health and safety standards.

As well as the register, the NICEIC also delivers training and consulting services, and provides a free online certification and reporting system that contractors can use to certify and notify completed electrical work when required.

Who is the app available to?

The new NICEIC app is free to download for all staff of any NICEIC-certified businesses and is available on both Android and iOS systems.

Why is the app useful?

Designed to be a convenient pocket guide for those working in the electrical industry, the app comes with a bank of 35 technical reference guides, ranging from Applications of RCD’s to Risk Assessment in the Workplace, all of which have been updated to the latest BS 7671:2018+A2:2022 regulations where relevant.

A major advantage of the app is that all content is instantly adapted in line with any regulation changes, so users can be sure all references are up to date while on-the-go.

Along with the guides, the NICEIC app also includes calculators for checking Zs values, Adiabatic Equations, Conductor Resistance and Length and Design Current.

"The Pocket Guide app is set to be a welcomed addition for NICEIC contractors," said NICEIC's Head of Technical Services, Paul Collins.

"Previously offered in physical formats and via the NICEIC website, we know these guides are well used and sought after. Therefore, making them more accessible and environmentally friendly was a logical and important step.

"When designing the app, we paid particular attention to functionality, ensuring it was both intuitive and fully searchable. We also focused on the clarity of the display, which we think users will agree is impressive."
