Technicians on electrical courses may hope to see new job opportunities on a tower dubbed the Quill, which received planning permission from a local authority in London this week.

The development was approved by Southwark Borough Council and architects Spparc will aim to gain an excellent rating on the BREEAM scale for the complex, which received its nickname as a result of its angular shape.

Engineers who have taken electrical courses may be required when construction begin on the site, as the building is set to be used as accommodation for students at King's College London.

A spokesperson for Spparc claimed the plans show how the Quill will integrate into the surrounding area.

"Sustainable development, good urban design and strong architectural detailing are the key principles that have informed the design," they added.

However, the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment has not been quite as complimentary in its comments about the tower, saying that developers are using space inefficiently.
