SNP leader Alex Salmond may have prompted more tradesmen to consider renewable energy courses this week.

The politician spoke at a tour of a biomass plant being built in Fife and lauded the decision by Tullis Russell to power its paper mill with a sustainable source, saying it will protect positions at the company.

He added: "It will create jobs in construction and green-energy generation. And by 2020 we can create 130,000 jobs in our green and low-carbon industries."

This level of employment creation may inspire technicians to sign up for renewable energy courses, so they are qualified to carry out work in certain green sector positions.

The Tullis Russell power plant project is set to produce 50 permanent jobs, in addition to up to 400 positions during the construction process.

According to a recent article published by the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development, the development of green sources of energy is now a critical priority in many countries.
