Tradespeople were very much in demand in 2020!
At Able Skills we have been providing courses in trade skills for almost 20-years. We offer courses in most trades including Plumbing courses, Electrician courses, Gas courses and many different construction options. It is important for us to keep up with what is going on in the industry. Today we are going to take a look at some recent statistics that outline how 2020 went for tradespeople throughout the pandemic. Tradesmen and women are constantly in demand and were considered as essential for the most part. However, with many people across the country spending most of their time at home it inadvertently created many opportunities for professionals out in the industry. Let's take a look at these findings and how you can start your own successful career now, starting at home in 2021!

We teach and provide industry-recognised qualifications in trade skills.
The Covid-19 lockdowns have meant that millions of people have been spending more time at home in 2020 than ever before - Many people have turned to professional tradespeople this year to help them turn their visions into reality and or more time around the house made them more aware of issues that needed fixing. If fact, this survey shows that around 52% of people realised the issues in their homes last year due to spending more time at home. Plumbers and Electricians were the most sought-after traders, out of 1,000 people 23% required the services of a plumbing professional and 11% needed help from a qualified electrician. An interested statistic from this research shows that 20% of the call outs for tradespeople are due to a failed DIY attempt that needed to be corrected, which shows people are interested in taking on tasks themselves around the house.
What does this mean?
Well, with research showing that 65% of UK homeowners have invested in some sort of renovation during the lockdown and subsequent restrictions, 24% of which have been funded by money otherwise put aside for a holiday. People are choosing to invest in their household due to the pandemic and generally spending more time at home. In turn, it shows the resilience of having a trade skills and the plain fact that tradespeople like Plumbers, Electricians and Gas Engineers can work safely and generally that there will always be a demand regardless of what is going on in the world. Trades are reliable, honest jobs and overall if you are qualified and working safely you will not be short of work even during a global pandemic. Where many other industries have struggled such as retail, leisure and so on - Trade skills prevail and their roles are secure!
Interested in learning a trade?
Unfortunately, due to the latest national lockdown this month we have now suspended most of our at centre training options. However, if you are interested in either Plumbing or Electrics, you are in luck! Our Home-Study courses work by you learning the theory side of the qualification at home before attending our centre to learn the practical side and complete the relevant assessments. We will send you our specially crafted 'Home-Study Pack' that includes all of the theory information as well as example questions for you to test yourself with. We also send you City & Guilds test books that support the information within the pack. Additionally, we will provide you with access to the online learning platform Smartscreen as an alternative source of information and finally we will supply you with contact details for one of our instructors in case you require some additional guidance as you study. Here are the courses that we offer on a Home-Study basis:
