During the pandemic we though about other ways to conduct the all-important NVQ Assessments for our students. We now offer the NVQ Level 3 Electrical process remotely. This worked well in terms of social distancing and didn't harm the assessment. It also means that we can help electricians in need of this qualification across the entire country!

What is an NVQ?

An NVQ Or National Vocational Qualification is a work-based qualification. The students taking on the assessment will need to demonstrate and prove their competency in their chosen role or career path on the job. There are Electrical NVQs such as our Level 3 NVQ as well as NVQs in all types of other trades.

How does a remote NVQ work?

Traditionally, an electrical NVQ is achieved via work/site based assessment and portfolio building and AM2. Our remote option will work in the exact same way. You will start by collecting evidence on the job such as photos and videos of different tasks, then you will be visited on the job over 2-occations. Remotely these visitations will be carried out through video conferencing software, using a webcam on a computer or a phone.

After being assessed on the job the final step in the completion of a Level 3 Electrical NVQ is taking on an AM2 Assessment. Here at our training centre we have a dedicated AM2 centre allowing you to take on the practical assessment separate from our busy centre. However, if you live a considerable distance from our centre we will find a reputable place to complete it local to you.

What happens next?

After completing both the video calls and the AM2 Assessment you will have achieved a Level 3 NVQ in Electrics. You may want to take on a Level 3 Inspection and Testing course. This course is entirely theory based focusing on how to properly carry out and document inspecting and testing electrical installations until you undertake a final practical assessment. Additionally, this is the next step towards achieving a JIB Gold Card.

Electrician courses

This card acts as identification for an electrician that wants to achieve an ‘Approved’ status.
