Workers who have taken electrical courses could benefit from a new housing repairs contract that has been awarded to Morrison Facilities Services.

According to Thurrock Council, the firm will supply high-quality repairs for tenants of the local authority's properties and will improve on the efficiency of the service while creating new job opportunities to local contractors.

Commenting on the news, Simon Hayes, managing director of the company's southern division, said: "Morrison is committed to providing local employment opportunities and community development activities in Thurrock, as we recognise the importance of these initiatives in helping to transform the local community for its residents."

In addition, the group also aims to introduce an apprenticeship scheme for young people in the region, as well as a recruitment exercise at the start of the contract, which will commence in July 2010.

Morrison looks after 400,000 homes and buildings across the UK on behalf of its clients, which include housing associations, councils and private businesses.
