People who have successfully gained their approved plumbing qualifications could find their workload increased thanks to new funding from the Scottish government.

It was recently revealed that some £76 million is set to be ploughed into affordable housing, colleges, transport and renewable energy infrastructure schemes across the country in 2010-11.

And the £31 million being set aside for housing stock could lead to qualified plumbers becoming more and more in demand to help fit-out the properties and ready them for inhabitancy.

It is estimated that more than 21,000 homes will be delivered as a result of the funding.

Commenting on the news, finance secretary John Swinney, said the state will ensure the funds "make the maximum possible contribution to Scotland's economic recovery and to support employment, particularly in the construction industry".

The funding follows the announcement that £4.7 million is being allocated by the European Regional Development Fund to create hundreds of jobs in the nation.
