Once again it is being published this week about the skills shortage within the construction industry. It’s now being said that the skills shortage is at its worst point. More workers are needed across all the trades in the UK and is driving up wages for workers in a skilled trade.

Due to this it is being feared that this will damage the housebuilding targets set by the government. With a lack of skilled and qualified workers in the industry it is slowing down progress and therefore not meeting targets.

Here is a piece taking from an article in the Independent today:

A shortage of construction workers faced by small and medium-sized businesses has hit its worst level on record, threatening the Government’s grand plan to build hundreds of thousands of houses annually, research conducted by the Federation of Master Builders has revealed.

The shortage is affecting all trades and from companies up and down the UK. The fall of Carillion has meant that there will be workers looking for new work, which is described as a silver-lining.

However, here at Able Skills we see the skills shortage as a fantastic opportunity for people to start a new career in the construction industry. With many people working in jobs they hate across the UK we are seeing lots of people train for completely new careers. The construction industry was never seen as a high-end job to get into, however, it is now being seeing as a great career with great opportunities ahead just like there is with this current skills shortage.

Whether you are complete newbie or even an experienced worker, we have the training packages available for you to gain that all important NVQ in your chosen trade. An NVQ is needed to get a CSCS Card to gain work on-site as a skilled worker.

Here at Able Skills we offer training courses in all the main construction trades, such as:
