The Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) is for those individuals who have at least 3 years’ experience working as a practising domestic electrician (not including time spent in full or part time training) and who hold a recognised level 2 Electrical Installation qualification but have not formally completed an industry apprenticeship or equivalent Level 3 NVQ qualification. You will need to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and competence to the standard of the Level 3 electrotechnical apprenticeship. The qualification is not suitable for new entrants to the electrotechnical industry, apprentices, or those who have completed an electrotechnical technical qualification with less than three years relevant experience as a domestic electrician.

The achievement of the Domestic Electrician Experienced Worker Qualification and the AM2ED meets the criteria for an ECS Domestic Electrician gold card application. The Domestic Electrician Experienced Worker Assessment is also recognised in the Electrotechnical Assessment Specification as equivalent to an industry apprenticeship.
The C&G 2347-03 is an NVQ route suitable for those of you who have at least 3 years working history and who hold a recognised level 2 Electrical Installation qualification.
Units required to achieve this NVQ are:
Requirements for Electrical Installations - City & Guilds 2382 (booked separately)
Level 3 Electrical Inspection and Testing – City & Guilds 2391-52 (booked separately)
There are five Level 3 Performance Units to be assessed before you can gain this Experienced Worker qualification:
Apply Health, Safety and Environmental Considerations in Dwellings
Plan and Oversee the Electrical Work Activities in Dwellings
Apply Design and Installation Practices including Termination and Connection of Conductors in Dwellings
Inspect, Test, Report and Commission Electrical Systems in Dwellings
Apply Fault Diagnosis and Rectification In Dwellings
AM2ED (booked separately)
The NVQ level 3 is not a training course; it is an assessment of your competence and is mandatory for those of you who require JIB Gold Card status. The NVQ is relatively easy to achieve as long as you are working within the domestic electrical industry and have access to the right kind of work. Achievement of the Experienced Worker Assessment C&G 2347-03 NVQ Level 3 in full is based upon:
Once you have contacted Able Skills, we will send you a Skills Scan and Candidate Background form to determine your eligibility for this route to Domestic NVQ level 3. Following confirmation of your eligibility, we will issue you with an assessment pack for completion – this will include areas for witness testimonies and a letter of reference from your current employer (where applicable). Once these documents are returned to us, the next step will be to book you in for a detailed profiling session at Able Skills with an Electrical NVQ Assessor where the processes for achieving the NVQ will be explained. You will then be assessed at your workplace where Able Skills Assessors will gather documentary evidence of your competence with regards to various different aspects of an Electrical installation within domestic dwellings..
To achieve the NVQ (C&G 2347-03) in full, you will also need to have C&G 2382, level 3 Inspection & Testing C&G 2391-52 and then the last assessment will be the AM2ED.
Current scope of work: You’ll only be able to use evidence for the EWA performance assessments that is generated after you enrol on the EWA – so you’ll need to be working day-to-day on activity that covers the breadth of what is required. You may have evidence from past work that will confirm that you’re a suitable candidate for the EWA, but you’d still need to be currently working as an electrician in order to create evidence for the practical units.
Level 2 entry qualification: The requirement for a recognised Level 2 electrical theory qualification is to ensure that anyone undertaking EWA has an appropriate understanding of electrical theory and the required scientific principles.
If you do not hold the required level 2 certification, Able Skills has developed a fast-track option for individuals who have the required 5 years’ experience. Please seeCity & Guilds 2365-02 – Experienced Worker - Fast Track. Alternatively, if you are not eligible for the fast-track option, we offer alternative training to achieve the required level 2 qualification:
If you don’t have any Inspection and Testing qualifications, Able Skills offers the C&G 2391-52.
