This course can be completed over 4 consecutive weeks, or you may choose to attend in 4 separate weekly blocks if you prefer a more flexible schedule. The aim of this course is to provide you with the training needed to access the industry. To make this transition easier, at the end of the course, we will provide details for CST Training, who partner with Able Skills to guide you through the NVQ process if that is the logical next step for you.
NVQ Process
Able Skills works closely with CST Training, who will support you throughout the entire NVQ journey. They will ensure you understand how to build your NVQ portfolio and gather the necessary evidence.
CST Training offers:
- Flexible payment options
- An online portfolio platform
- An assessor induction via Google Meet
Once registered, candidates will start collecting evidence from their workplace and uploading it to the online portal. This includes:
- Videos demonstrating on-site work (including correct PPE usage, material handling, and trade-specific tasks)
- Relevant site documentation, such as Toolbox Talks, Method Statements, and Briefings
- Scheduled recorded discussions via Google Meet to complete knowledge-based questions
- A final Professional Discussion with an assessor via Google Meet to conclude the NVQ process
After submission, the portfolio will go through internal quality assurance and then be submitted to the awarding body. The final certificate will be issued via email.
NVQs are ‘Declarations of Competence’, meaning they cannot be achieved in a simulated training environment. This course prepares you for the process, but actual NVQ achievement requires workplace-based evidence.
Once registered for your NVQ, you may choose to obtain a CSCS Experienced Worker or Trainee card (after independently arranging and passing a CSCS test), giving you improved access to employment. When you complete the NVQ, this card can be upgraded to a Blue Skilled Worker card.
This is a hands-on, practical Dry Lining course, and you will be actively involved at every stage. It is therefore recommended that you wear suitable clothing and, for your safety, steel-capped footwear is essential.
