Able Skills has structured week end courses to suit the needs of every person looking for DIY skills.

This DIY Carpentry course is aimed at those of you who have some work around the house which needs attention and which you want to try to repair yourself.

The DIY courses we offer will provide you with the training you require to make those essential repairs, as well as advising you on health and safety and all tools and materials required to complete the job to a high standard and safely.

DIY Carpentry and Kitchen Fitting courses are allocated a weekend training slot and in this short space of time, you will be amazed at how much you can learn and how much money you can save by not calling in a tradesman.

DIY can be dangerous if you don’t know what you are doing and can be costly if you employ the wrong handy man. We want to encourage DIY enthusiasts to get it right first time and to help you achieve your aims; we have devised courses to suit every DIY requirement.

Our vast Carpentry training centre has the space and facilities to cover just about any aspect of Carpentry and if you want to learn something specific which is not on our list but conceivably can be done over a weekend with minimal disruption to the centre, we will try and accommodate you. Weekend training is available throughout the year and you can choose when you train.

Able Skills has recruited the best staff in all areas of construction, people with years of experience in their specific trade. In addition to this, each member of staff has gained the required qualifications to allow them to teach, assess and internally verify our qualification courses.

These same instructors are available to you for the weekend courses, guaranteeing you a very high standard of tuition.

In just 1 weekend, we will look to provide you with an insight into and understanding of:

DIY Carpentry Course will cover

•    Cut and fit dado rails, architraves, skirtings and doorstops
•    Erect a stud-wall
•    Fit a door lining/frame
•    Hang a door
•    Fit a lock

OR

DIY Kitchen Fitting Course will cover

•    Tool use and safe working practice
•    Setting out
•    Installation of base and wall units
•    leveling both vertically and horizontally across all units
•    Cutting and fixing of worktops using a router and worktop jig (sink and hob holes etc.)
•    Installation of worktop including fitting of sink and hob.
•    Measurement, cutting and fixing of plinths, and pelmets
•    Fixing and leveling of doors.

These are hands-on, practical courses and you will be involved at every stage and will be participating throughout the course. It is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety, steel capped footwear is essential. All tools and materials will be provided throughout your training period.

These weekend courses are a fantastic insight into various construction skills and without a doubt will provide you with the skills and confidence to undertake DIY at home.
