At Able Skills we aim to cater for everyone looking to learn to tile and we aim to cover everyone’s tiling needs.

Whether you are looking to learn to tile for your own personal project or want to learn tiling leading to a career change, Able Skills can provide you with the tiling training you may be lacking to help you on your way. We can progress you through the NVQ process once you have suitable tiling work, sometimes there is no need for On Site assessments as long as your portfolio evidence meets all the criteria of the NVQ code of practice.

Learning to Tile at Able Skills Tiling Centre

Able Skills has become increasingly aware of the growing popularity of tiled areas within the home and at places of work and we have grown to cater for the recent demand in people wanting to learn to tile.

Able Skills has invested in a dedicated Tiling Training Centre and it has been set out and designed to cater for every tiling requirement. We guarantee that we can cover every aspect within Tiling.

We have fully fitted kitchen areas, fully fitted bathroom areas, walls, floors, steps and columns. We also have shower areas to teach Tanking and designated areas for floor screeding. Reality is available at Able Skills and once you have seen the facilities we have available, we are confident that you will see that this is the only place to learn to tile.

The tiling industry is booming and the trend is growing. Natural products like Granite, Marble, Limestone and Slate are increasingly popular and specialist training is required to provide the customer with the perfect finish. We use a full range of quality tools to learn with like Rubi Tile Cutters and Rubi accessories, ensuring the quality of your work from start to finish. Our other tiling products are supplied by BAL, the leading adhesive and waterproofing manufacturers.

We also teach traditional tiling and cover all areas to produce a great finish. We use standard white tiles through to large porcelain tiles, mosaics and whatever is required in between, we aim to meet the needs of today’s market.

The courses we provide will teach you tiling from the very basic right through to qualification level if that is what you require. The standard of teaching remains the same for all participants of all tiling courses as all of our instructors are time served Tilers but also have the added bonus of having obtained teaching qualifications. Everyone at this Tiling Training Centre will have the benefit of having learned to Tile from the best there is.

We will provide you with regular demonstrations from both Rubi and BAL so that you are even more confident in what you are learning and you have that added knowledge of what is required once you have completed your tiling course and take on those tiling tasks.

Both Companies will advise and demonstrate fully of which tool is required for which tile or which product is required for which surface or the correct product to use in a particular situation.

We are committed to providing all Able Skills students with the best training, tools and materials available. We want you to leave us having learned everything you wanted to learn about Tiling and to go away with the skills and the confidence to tackle any Tiling projects.

If you later decide that you want to be assessed on your Tiling competence, we can support you through the NVQ process.

Looking for a complete package to enable you to start work immediately or looking to gain a recognised qualification:

For those of you who are looking to progress to NVQ, the following guidance is accurate:

NVQs helps experienced workers get the qualifications to prove they can do the job. It turns their existing skills and experience into a nationally recognised qualification such as an NVQ.

You cannot achieve an NVQ in a training environment nor can you consider that after just 2 weeks you are eligible for NVQ assessment. Some training providers will promise you NVQ training in 2 weeks; this is not feasible so please investigate fully if you are considering anyone other than Able Skills.

Once you have completed your chosen tiling courses and are working within the tiling industry, you may decide that you would like an NVQ to prove you are competent. In the meantime, we recommend that you continue building your portfolio, gathering evidence of work completed, customer testimonies, job references and photographic evidence. You should be aiming to provide as much checkable evidence as is possible to allow Able Skills registered NVQ assessors to decide if you are a proficient and safe Tiler and deserving of an NVQ. As your portfolio builds, you will be able to see your own progression from a novice to a skilled Tiler.

Your portfolio evidence should suffice but if you are not working too far away then we can assess you at work if you prefer.

For those of you who are already time served Tilers who have been tiling for some time there is the possibility that you will satisfy the criteria for achieving an NVQ using the Experienced Worker route (EWPA)
