Guidance on choosing the right training centre
We are aware that there are many Training Centres in the UK offering City and Guilds qualifications and we would advise caution when you are ready to book courses of this nature.
We recommend that you confirm the Training Centre’s City & Guilds Registration number and also that you enquire as to the qualifications of their staff.
In order for your Plastering Qualification course to run swiftly and smoothly, you should ensure that your chosen training centre has qualified Instructors, Assessors and Internal Verifiers.
Better still, visit the centre and view the staff’s qualifications as well as the facilities available.
You should be allowed access to see the training areas, chat to instructors, have access to past student feedback forms and additionally, chat to existing students.
Check if the course will be completed solely at the training centre or whether you are actually also being sold ‘home study’ units.
Lastly, confirm the timings of your course. If your intended course is to be achieved in blocks then be sure that you can return to train at a time of your choice and that you will not be left waiting for months on end to get back in.

Plastering Progression and CSCS: Upgrade to an 8 Week Plastering Course
Following on from your City & Guilds Plastering qualification it is important that you look to the future and consider achieving an NVQ at level 2. This will require you to be working within the Plastering industry in order to build a portfolio of evidence which can be assessed to determine your progress and support you in achieving an NVQ. If you are looking to undertake ‘site’ based plastering work in the future, it is important that you have a CSCS card, without it, you will not be able to access sites. Able Skills will provide you with the training material to aid you in your understanding of site health & safety and we will also pay for you to undertake your CSCS test. The aim of the test is to examine knowledge across a wide range of health and safety topics in order to improve safety and productivity on site. If you are looking to hold an Experienced Worker or Skilled Worker card, you will need to be registered for an NVQ – You can do this with Able Skills by undertaking an additional 2 weeks of plastering training. Able Skills will register you for an NVQ free of charge when you feel ready to take this next step.
Please visit our Plastering 8 Week NVQ page for further details.
