Have you considered obtaining a qualification in Plastering providing you with the opportunity to change your career and provide you with a trade for life?

Able Skills can offer you the opportunity to obtain a City & Guilds Plastering qualification which will provide you with training and assessment in several areas of plastering from internal work, to external work, floor screeding and even some tiling.

This 6 weeks of hands on plastering training will see you progress from a novice to a competent Plasterer, building a portfolio of your work as you go. The course is designed to build your skills gradually until plastering becomes second nature and at this Centre where ‘reality’ is important, this is easily achieved.

Able Skills Plastering Centre has been designed to challenge you! We can provide you with easy areas to build your confidence to more complicated areas which will test your patience!

We will provide you with the plastering training to meet the standards as required by City & Guilds but we will also build on this to give you much more so that you will fully understand what plastering is all about. The emphasis for us is on meeting and exceeding our customers’ expectations. We have designed the Plastering Centre to cover every possible plastering scenario, providing separate areas for each training module with separate areas for all assessments!

We do feel that after 7 years of providing this plastering training, we are the best at what we do. We invest in our facilities, our staff and our students. We have fantastic plastering instructors who make you feel welcome at all times and are dedicated to providing a service which upholds our reputation. Their patience is to a level which will make sure everyone believes that they can achieve this plastering award…. And they can, with dedication to the course.

The plastering course will provide you with in depth training to cover all 15 plastering units, both the mandatory and optional units. During your training time at Able Skills you will be assessed by our qualified plastering Assessors and Internal Verifiers and the entire City & Guilds process is completed here on site at Able Skills, which ensures this plastering course is delivered using the correct procedures and without delay.

There are 7 mandatory Units and you must complete any 2 Units from the 8 optional units to achieve the FULL award

The 7 Mandatory Units are:
  • 016 - Repairing a patch in a plastered wall
  • 065 - Boarding and setting a ceiling in one coat
  • 066 - Applying a floating coat to wall and attached pier
  • 067 - Applying and finishing the setting coat to a floored wall and attached pier
  • 068 - Applying a floating coat to a square or rectangular column
  • 069 - Applying a floating finishing coat to a square or rectangular column
  • 070 - Scrim and skim finish with plaster
The 8 Optional Units are
  • 017 - Screeding a sand and cement floor from a given level of datum point
  • 018 - Introduction to fixing floor tiles and skirting tiles
  • 071 - Applying a textured finish with border
  • 072 - Replaster over textured ceiling using bonding agent
  • 073 - Applying a plain rendering and finish with a wood float
  • 074 - Applying a Tyrolean hand machine finish to a prepared wall
  • 075 - Fixing bell cast bead and applying scratch coats to wall areas
  • 076 - Applying pebble dash finish to a prepared wall

Polish Plastering for free

It is important for any tradesman to be able to offer as much as they can within their chosen trade so at Able Skills, we will also provide you with 2 days Polished Plastering training, free of charge. This form of decorative plastering is becoming increasingly popular so will benefit you greatly during your career as a Plasterer.

Plastering Progression

Following on from your City & Guilds Plastering qualification it is important that you look to the future and consider achieving an NVQ at level 2. This will require you to be working within the Plastering industry in order to build a portfolio of evidence which can be assessed to determine your progress and support you in achieving an NVQ. Able Skills will register you for an NVQ free of charge when you feel ready to take this next step.

If you are interested in setting up in business on a self employed basis, we can arrange for a representative from HSBC Business Banking to visit you at Able Skills, we can also provide you with a Business start up pack containing useful information and guidance on printing (business cards), public liability insurance, advice on tax and VAT and website design.

CSCS

If you are looking to undertake ‘site’ based plastering work in the future, it is important that you have a CSCS card, without it, you will not be able to access sites. Able Skills will provide you with the training material to aid you in your understanding of site health & safety and we will also pay for you to undertake your CSCS test. The aim of the test is to examine knowledge across a wide range of health and safety topics in order to improve safety and productivity on site. You will then be considered for a Blue Experienced Worker card and once you achieve your NVQ, a Blue Skilled Worker card will be issued.

Plastering Course Structure, times and fees

This course can be covered over a period to suit you as long as you complete the entire course within 18 months. You can train for 6 consecutive weeks, divide your weeks up or even incorporate some weekend training if you have ongoing weekly commitments. At Able Skills we aim to make our qualifications as accessible as is possible and additionally we offer a payment plan which, following a deposit, is on a pay as you train basis.

At Able Skills we try to make our courses as affordable as possible. The cost for this 6 weeks City & Guilds Plastering Qualification is £2295.00 (inc vat). We require a £500 deposit to secure a start date and the remaining balance can be spread over the 6 week training period.

This is a hands-on, practical course, it is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety, steel capped footwear is essential. All other PPE, tools and materials will be provided throughout your training period.

Other Plastering Options

This will help you decide if you want to progress to a qualification and a career in Plastering. Alternatively, train with us over 2 weekends to test your skills and help you to decide. If you enjoy a short course and decide you would like to pursue a plastering career, Able Skills will upgrade you to a City & Guilds course, taking into account the time and money you have already spent with us.
