Technicians who have completed plumbing courses have been given some indication of potential bathroom trends for the year by an interior design expert.

Hannah Barnes, of Hannah Barnes Design, predicted that blocks of bold colour such as teal and lime will be used in such rooms in 2011.

She said: "I think we will see more textures in the wall decor, with natural materials in tiling creating interest, depth and shadow to contrast with the smooth lines."

With regards to areas tradesmen with plumbing course training are more likely to handle, Ms Barnes suggested consumers may be keen to fit "sleek, slim" items for their taps and showers.

In her view, this is part of a wider trend that will see more streamlined finishes in new bathrooms across the UK.

Last month, Furnish.com suggested homeowners could add a touch of fun to their bathrooms by giving them a nautical theme, although the website urged people to keep things simple with this style.
