We are proud to be supporting Gas Safety Week 2020, taking place 14 - 20 September! This is an event that comes around every year by the Gas Safe Register as a way to raise awareness of the dangers surrounding the trade of Gas and the importance of taking care of your gas appliances. This is actually the 10th year of this safety campaign by the Gas Safe Register. The Gas Safe Register is the official list of gas engineers who are legally allowed to work in the UK, any aspiring Gas Engineers will need to register with them, this ensures safe work is conducted across the country. As a training centre providing Gas courses for aspiring Gas Engineers, we want to promote safety, responsibility and honest work.

The annual Gas Safety Week returns next month!

Why is gas safety important?

The Gas Safe Register's goal is to ensure that all Gas work being carried out across the country is done by a qualified professional. I'm sure we all want that, gas can be a dangerous thing when in the hands of the untrained. For example, unsafe gas appliances can put you at risk of CO poisoning, also known as Carbon Monoxide poisoning which can cause headaches, dizziness, breathlessness, nausea, collapse, loss of consciousness and can even be fatal in some cases if overexposed. This odourless gas can leak from appliances that have not been installed properly. Without the Gas Safe Register, many unqualified traders would be putting homeowners and families at risk on a daily basis.

How can I stay safe?

Only use a Gas Safe registered engineer to fit, fix and service your appliances. You can find and check an engineer at GasSafeRegister.co.uk - Do not be ask an engineer for his card, by law all gas engineers will be carrying their license, simply type in the license number into the website and you will be informed to whether the engineer is working legally or not! You should also make sure that you have a Carbon Monoxide Detector, these devices will sound an alarm if the gas is detected in the air and can be picked up for as little as £15!

Make sure that as a homeowner you are paying attention to when your boiler was last serviced if you rent your home ask for a copy of the landlord’s current Gas Safety Record. - It has recently been revealed that people neglect to get their appliances such as their boiler serviced for as long as 10-years this is unsafe and a big concern. It will cost you less in the long run and ensures the safety of yourself and your family, there's no reason to put anyone at risk over a little inconvenience!

Becoming a Gas Engineer isn't just a job, its a career with many different avenues to pursue. Our New Entrant Gas Training Package 2 is a great way to prepare for a new career in the trade. This package includes intensive gas training, portfolio completion through work placement and an ACS assessment. For New Entrants looking to access the gas industry, this is an obvious choice.
